Canada to Open Border to Vaccinated US Travelers

Canada has announced that on August 9, 2021, it will reopen its borders to US citizens and permanent residents who are currently residing in the US and who have been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days. The US-Canada border has been closed for nonessential travel since March 2020.

All travelers to Canada will still have to produce a negative Covid test before arrival, post their travel information on the ArriveCAN portal, provide proof of vaccination, and present a quarantine plan upon arrival in case they are determined not to meet the quarantine exemption criteria. Unvaccinated children under 12 who are accompanying vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents can also enter Canada without quarantining, but will not be permitted to participate in group activities such as camps or daycare.

The US has not yet announced a reciprocal reopening of the border to vaccinated Canadians.
