Applying for a U.S. Passport – Plan Ahead

As a reminder to all U.S. citizens traveling overseas: according to the State Department, U.S. passport applications are currently taking 8 – 11 weeks to process. Requests for expedited processing are taking 5 -7 weeks. Processing times may take slightly longer because of mailing delays. Emergency expedited passports are available in exigent circumstances or in life-or-death situations. Applicants should apply for an initial or renewed passport several months in advance of a planned trip.
