USCIS Announces H-1B Lottery Results

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the results of this year’s H-1B lottery. USCIS received nearly 275,000 unique registrations for 85,000 slots (65,000 regular H-1B cap and 20,000 advanced degree exemption). Approximately 46% of registrations were submitted on behalf of individuals eligible for the advanced degree exemption by virtue of possessing a master’s degree or higher from a US institution.
Applicants who were selected in the lottery have been notified and may now begin to file applications.

The application period will remain open until June 30, 2020. USCIS has indicated that they may select additional registrants in the future if they receive fewer H-1B applications than anticipated (for instance, if selected registrants decide not to submit an H-1B application because of a slowdown in business resulting from COVID-19, or for any other reason). Registrants who were not selected during the initial lottery will remain eligible for selection until both the 65,000 regular H-1B cap and 20,000 advanced degree exemption have been reached. USCIS has not provided a timeline for when it will notify the additional registrants who are selected at a later date.
