Overview

Janna Miksis joined the firm’s entertainment labor practice in January 2024, building upon a career representing producers and entertainment companies in production and technology matters, both in private practice and as in-house counsel. Her practice focuses on advising and representing a range of producers, exhibitors, and distributors throughout the entertainment industry on matters involving the interpretation of guild and union collective bargaining agreements and the development of labor strategy.

Janna’s corporate experience encompasses senior positions as product counsel and entertainment labor relations legal representative for companies in the entertainment industry, including Epic Games as Senior Counsel and Take-Two Interactive Software as Director & Counsel.

At Epic Games, Janna acted as the lead negotiator for its Interactive Media Agreement collective bargaining agreement negotiations and as the key legal representative with respect to union matters, advising on collective bargaining considerations across all major entertainment guilds and unions, including WGA, DGA, SAG-AFTRA, and IATSE. Janna also counseled Epic Games in many other aspects of its business, including the development and production of high-quality entertainment experiences in the metaverse and other digital ecosystems concerning a wide range of legal and policy matters, including blended content, artificial intelligence, and complex, first-instance IP issues.

At Take-Two Interactive Software, Janna counseled clients on a wide range of legal and policy matters, including collective bargaining negotiations and complex IP licensing. She also served as a key legal representative concerning union matters, which included successfully negotiating with SAG-AFTRA, in coordination with other top interactive gaming companies, to successfully end the longest labor strike in SAG-AFTRA history. Janna also spearheaded the development of guild-compliant safety protocols to protect performers and on-set personnel with respect to COVID-19 issues.

Prior to going in-house, Janna was an associate with the law firm Gray Krauss Stratford Sandler Des Rochers LLP, serving as full production counsel in the film and television industry, from acquisition of copyright through distribution, with a focus on independent films.

Janna graduated from New York University cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She graduated from Brooklyn Law School, earning a certificate in intellectual property.
