Overview

Michele Coyne is the Chair of KM&M’s Employment Law Practice Group, which exclusively represents employers in all federal, state, and local employment law matters.

Michele's personal focus includes discrimination claims, wage and hour issues, the FMLA, reductions in force, employment policies and procedures, and performance and disciplinary issues. Michele has conducted extensive training for employees, managers, Human Resource professionals and other attorneys in employment law matters. She also has litigated a full range of employment matters in federal and state court and represented clients before administrative agencies.

Michele attended Villanova University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received an undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, in English and Political Science. She earned her law degree in 1995 from New York University, where she was Articles Editor of the New York University Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Michele is also a qualified solicitor in the Republic of Ireland.

Michele worked as a summer and part-time intern with KM&M during law school. Following law school, she joined the labor and employment law group at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York City. During her four years at Simpson Thacher, she represented multinational, national and local employers in the full range of labor and employment law matters. During her tenure at Simpson Thacher, she also spent several months working in-house as labor and employment counsel to Capital America, a subsidiary of Nomura Securities International.

In 1999, Michele joined the legal department at Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. (now Vivendi Universal). As Assistant Counsel, Labor and Employment, Michele was responsible for the labor, employment and immigration matters worldwide for the Company's corporate functions, and entertainment and distilled spirits businesses. Michele joined KM&M as an associate in 2003 and became a partner in 2005.

Michele is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the New York City Bar Association and was selected for the 2020 Super Lawyers list.
