Governor Cuomo Signs Bill Eliminating the Annual Notice Requirement Under the New York Wage Theft Prevention Act
On December 29, 2014, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill eliminating employers’ obligation to provide annual wage notices to employees under the New York Wage Theft Prevention Act. This change will take effect immediately, and annual notices will not be required for 2015. New York employers must still comply with the other notice requirements in the Wage Theft Prevention Act, which include: (a) providing a wage notice to new employees at hire; and (b) updating employees when information in a prior wage notice changes.
